What is REMS?
Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry (REMS) is an FDA-cleared, radiation-free bone density technology from Echolight. It uses ultrasound to measure bone density at the lumbar spine and femoral neck — the same sites measured by DEXA.
How does REMS compare to DEXA?
REMS has been validated in multiple clinical studies showing comparable or superior accuracy to DEXA. Unlike DEXA, REMS uses zero radiation, making it safe for frequent monitoring. It also provides a Fragility Score that DEXA does not.
Who should get a REMS scan?
Anyone interested in bone health — especially post-menopausal women, adults over 50, those with a family history of osteoporosis, and anyone wanting a radiation-free alternative to DEXA.
How often should I scan?
We recommend a baseline scan, then follow-ups every 6-12 months depending on your risk factors and treatment plan. Because there's no radiation, you can scan as often as clinically useful.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
